1N5400 datasheet

Description

This is 3A, 50V, Ultra Fast Recovery Rectifier.

The CENTRAL SEMICONDUCTOR 1N5400 series ypes are axial lead silicon power rectifiers designed for power supply and general purpose rectifier applications.

1N5400 is a general-purpose silicon rectifier diode. It is a member of the 1N540x series of diodes, which are designed for use in power supply applications, such as rectification of AC voltage to DC voltage. The 1N5400 diode has a maximum repetitive reverse voltage of 50V and a maximum forward current of 3A.

Absolute Maximum Ratings (Ta = 25°C)

1. Peak Repetitive Reverse Voltage : VRRM = 50 V

2. DC Blocking Voltage : VR = 50  V

3. RMS Reverse Voltage : VR(RMS) = 35 V

4. Average Forward Current (Ta=75°C) : IO = 3.0 A

5. Peak Forward Surge Current (tp=8.3ms) : IFSM = 200 A

6. Operating and Storage = -65 to +175 °C

7. Junction Temperature TJ, Tstg = -65 to +175 °C

The 1N5400 diode is known for its reliability, durability, and low cost, making it a popular choice for many applications. It is commonly used in power supply circuits, battery chargers, voltage regulators, and other electronic circuits that require rectification of AC voltage to DC voltage.

Advantages:

1. High current capability: Handle a maximum forward current of 3A, making it suitable for use in high-power applications.

2. Low cost: Low-cost diode, making it an attractive option for cost-sensitive designs.

3. Wide availability: Widely available diode, and it is easy to source from many suppliers.

4.. Rugged construction: Constructed with a robust package that can withstand mechanical stresses and harsh environments.

Disadvantages:

1. Slow recovery time: Slow reverse recovery time, which means that it takes longer to switch off when the voltage polarity changes.

2. Limited reverse voltage rating: Maximum reverse voltage rating of 50V, which limits its use in high-voltage applications.

3. High forward voltage drop: Relatively high forward voltage drop, which can cause power dissipation and reduce efficiency in some circuits.
