AD584 Datasheet PDF – Precision Voltage Reference

Part Number: AD584

Function: 40V, 600mW, pin programmable precision voltage reference

Package: TO-99, DIP 8 Pin type

Manufacturer: Analog Devices

Image and Pinouts:

AD584 datasheet

Description

The AD584 is an8-terminal precision voltage reference offering pin programmable selection of four popular output voltages: 10.000 V, 7.500 V, 5.000 V and 2.500 V. Other output voltages, above, below, or between the four standard outputs, are available by the addition of external resistors.

The input voltage can vary between 4.5 V and 30 V. Laser wafer trimming (LWT) is used to adjust the pin programmable output levels and temperature coefficients, resulting in the most flexible high precision voltage reference available in monolithic form.

Features

1. Four programmable output voltages : 10.000 V, 7.500 V, 5.000 V, and 2.500 V

2. Laser-trimmed to high accuracies

3. No external components required

4. Trimmed temperature coefficient
(1) 15 ppm/°C maximum, 0°C to 70°C (AD584K)
(2) 15 ppm/°C maximum, −55°C to +125°C (AD584T)

5. Zero output strobe terminal provided

6. 2-terminal negative reference: capability (5 V and above)

7. Output sources or sinks current

8. Low quiescent current: 1.0 mA maximum

9. 10 mA current output capability

Design Notes

  • Laser trimming ensures high initial accuracy and long-term stability
  • Temperature coefficient must be considered in precision measurement systems
  • Output can be fine-tuned using external resistors for non-standard voltages
  • Strobe pin allows output disabling, useful in multiplexed systems
  • Low quiescent current makes it suitable for portable instrumentation
  • Proper PCB layout (guard rings, low-noise routing) is critical for maintaining precision

How to Choose This Part

  • Select when multiple precision reference voltages are required
  • Evaluate temperature range and stability requirements
  • Ensure supply voltage compatibility (≥ output voltage + margin)
  • Compare noise and drift performance with modern references
  • Consider newer low-noise references for ultra-high precision applications

Applications

  • Precision instrumentation
  • Industrial measurement systems
  • Laboratory calibration equipment
  • Data acquisition and control systems
  • Analog signal processing circuits

Alternative / Equivalent Products

  • REF02 – 5V precision reference
  • ADR01 – Low noise precision reference
  • LM4040 – Shunt voltage reference
  • LT1021 – Ultra precision reference
  • REF5050 – Modern precision reference IC
