Description
A ISC3806 rotary encoder, also called a shaft encoder, is an electro-mechanical device that converts the angular position or motion of a shaft or axle to an analog or digital code.
There are two main types: absolute and incremental (relative). The output of absolute encoders indicates the current position of the shaft, making them angle transducers. The output of incremental encoders provides information about the motion of the shaft, which is typically further processed elsewhere into information such as speed, distance and position.
An incremental rotary encoder is a type of electromechanical device used to detect and measure the angular position and rotational movement of a shaft. It is commonly employed in various industrial and automation applications where precise position and speed feedback are required.
The basic construction of an incremental rotary encoder consists of a rotating disc or wheel with evenly spaced slots or segments (also called “pulses”) and an optical or magnetic sensor that detects these segments. As the shaft or object to be measured rotates, the segments pass by the sensor, generating electrical pulses. These pulses are then counted or processed to determine the angular position, speed, or direction of rotation.
