The IRD3901 is 20A, 200V, Fast Recovery Rectifier Diode.
This range of fast recovery diodes is designed for applications in DC power supplies, inverters, choppers, ultrasonic systems and for use as a free-wheeling diode.
In a regular diode, when the forward current is interrupted and the voltage across the diode changes from forward bias to reverse bias, there is a certain amount of time required for the diode to recover and block the reverse current. This recovery time is known as the reverse recovery time (trr) and is typically in the range of microseconds to milliseconds for standard diodes.
Fast recovery rectifier diodes are specifically designed to minimize the reverse recovery time and reduce the associated switching losses.
