What is TTL 7493?

The 7493 is 4-bit binary counter. Each of these monolithic counters contains four master-slave flip-flops and addtional gating to provide a divide-by-two counter and a three-stage binary counter for which the count cycle length is divide-by-five for the 7490A and divide-by-eight for the 7493A.

All of these counters have a gated zero reset and the 7490A also has gated set-to-nine inputs for use in BCD nine’s complement applications.

Features

1. The operating voltage range for IC is 4.5 to 5.5V, but typical Operating Voltages are 5 Volts

2. The HIGH and LOW states will be represented by voltages on the IC. The HIGH will be represented by 3.5V (min) and LOW will represent by 0.25V (min)

3. The output for the current will also be different from IC. The HIGH state current will be -0.4mA and LOW will be 8mA

4. Typical power dissipation
(1) 90A  145mW
(2) 93A  130mW

5. Count frequency 42 Mhz

Binary Counter Applications:

1. To display numbers on seven segment display

2. For the creation of Longtime periods, the IC is used

3. It is used to design the stable counter circuit or a frequency divider with 74LS93

4. The IC is useable with applications who need timing

Here are three frequently asked questions (FAQs):

1. What is the maximum count value that can be generated by 7493?

This is a 4-bit counter, which means that it can count up to a maximum value of 2^4-1=15. Once the count reaches 15, it rolls over back to 0 and continues counting.

2. What is the clock input of?

The IC has two clock inputs, labeled as CLK and CLK’. The CLK input is used to increment the count by one, while the CLK’ input is used for a parallel load operation, which allows the counter to be preset to a specific count value.

3. What is the output?
The counter has four output pins, labeled as QA, QB, QC, and QD. These pins produce the binary output of the counter, which changes in response to each clock pulse. The QA pin produces the least significant bit (LSB), while the QD pin produces the most significant bit (MSB).
