What is ULN2003?
The ULN2001, ULN2002, ULN2003 and ULN2004 are high voltage, high current Darlington
arrays each containing seven open collector Darlington pairs with common emitters. Each
channel rated at 500 mA and can withstand peak currents of 600 mA. Suppression diodes are
included for inductive load driving and the inputs are pinned opposite the outputs to simplify board
layout.
These versatile devices are useful for driving a wide range of loads including solenoids, relay DC
motors, LED display filament lamps, thermal printheads and high-power buffers.
The ULN2003 is a popular high-voltage and high-current Darlington transistor array. It consists of seven NPN Darlington pairs that are capable of driving loads up to 50V and 500mA per channel.
Pinouts:
Features
• Seven Darlingtons per package
• Output current 500 mA per driver (600 mA peak)
• Output voltage 50 V
• Integrated suppression diodes for inductive loads
• Outputs can be paralleled for higher current
• TTL/CMOS/PMOS/DTL compatible inputs
• Inputs pinned opposite outputs to simplify layout
ULN2003 vs ULN2803?
The ULN2803 has a higher current rating per channel and can drive one additional channel compared to the ULN2003.
1. Number of channels:
The ULN2003 has seven NPN Darlington pairs, while the ULN2803 has eight NPN Darlington pairs.
2. Current rating:
The ULN2803 has a higher current rating per channel than the ULN2003. Each channel of the ULN2803 can handle up to 500 mA, while each channel of the ULN2003 can handle up to 350 mA.
3. Voltage rating:
The ULN2003 can handle a higher voltage per channel than the ULN2803.
