Part Number: 74LS145
Function: BCD-To-Decimal Decoders/Drivers
Package: DIP 16 Pin Type
Manufacturer: Texas Instruments
Image and Pinouts:
Description
These monolithic BCD-to-decimal decoder/drivers consist of eight inverters and ten four-input NAND gates. The inverters are connected in pairs to make BCD input data available for decoding by the NADN gates. These decoders feature high-performance, n-p-n output transistos designed for use as indicator / relay drivers or as open-collector logic-circuit drivers.
Each of the high-breakdown output transistors (15 volts) of the SN54145, SN74145, or SN74LS145 will sink up to 80 milliamperes of current. Each input is one Series 54/74 or Series 54LS/74LS standard load, respectively. Inputs and outputs are entirely compatible for use with TTL or DTL logic curciuts, and the outputs are compatible for interfacing with most MOS integrated circuits.
Features
1. Full decoding of input logic
2. All outputs are off for invalid BCD input conditions
Advantages
The 74LS145 is a popular decoder/demultiplexer IC due to its low power consumption and ease of use. It can be used to reduce the number of pins required for address or data bus lines in microprocessor applications. Additionally, it can be used in combination with other ICs to build complex logic circuits.
Disadvantages
One potential disadvantage of the 74LS145 is its limited output current capacity. Each output is rated for a maximum current of 8 mA, which may not be sufficient for some applications. Additionally, the device is only capable of handling TTL logic levels, which may not be compatible with all systems.
