In an NPN transistor, the current flows from the emitter to the collector. To turn on the transistor, a small current is applied to the base, which allows a larger current to flow from the collector to the emitter. The base region of an NPN transistor is doped with a material that has fewer electrons than the emitter or collector regions.

Description

The devices are manufactured in planar technology with “base island” layout and monolithic Darlington configuration. The resulting transistors show exceptional high gain performance coupled with very low saturation voltage.

Q: What are some applications of NPN and PNP transistors?
A: NPN and PNP transistors are used in a wide range of electronic devices, including amplifiers, switches, oscillators, and voltage regulators.

Q: Can NPN and PNP transistors be used interchangeably?
A: No, NPN and PNP transistors cannot be used interchangeably because their pinouts and characteristics are different.

ULN2803A datasheet

Description

The ULN2803A device is a high-voltage, high-current Darlington transistor array. The device consists of eight npn Darlington pairs that feature high-voltage outputs with common-cathode clamp diodes for
switching inductive loads. The collector-current rating of each Darlington pair is 500 mA.Types of Logic pairs may be connected in parallel for higher current capability. Applications include relay drivers, hammer drivers, lamp drivers, display drivers (LED and gas discharge), line drivers, and logic buffers.
